Solidarity Centered Request for Proposal (RFP) Process

In partnership with Population Works Africa

How can a solidarity lens disrupt and reimagine your giving process?

Solidarity as a lens, encompasses your institutional commitment to accelerating the economic and professional advancement of an inclusive, supportive, and equitable Request for Proposal (RFP) process that would be developed to include tenants of solidarity as organizing principles.

What could a solidarity centered RFP process look like in practice?

This RFP approach could help your Foundation address access barriers to entry which have kept non-traditional grantees from participation. Such access barriers sometimes include:

  1. Mother tongue and comfort speaking/writing in English

  2. Relationships (or lack thereof) within the Foundation

  3. Understanding (or misunderstanding) of the RFP process

  4. Ability to complete the application within strict timelines

  5. Technological resources available to submit applications

To address these barriers to entry, we suggest a multilayered RFP process to be developed over 6-8 months.
